There are a lot of attempts made by some people to define what country music is. Some say it is characterized by a melody using simple chords and country instruments. Others say it is an embodiment of attitudes and beliefs that give message about aspirations and conveys warmth and friendliness.
Whatever it is that categorizes a song as country music, if you want a different kind of experience with the genre, then Rascal Flatts is all you need to hear. This is a country music band founded in Nashville Tennessee, with three members Gary Levox (lead vocalist), Jay De Marcus (bass guitar and vocals) and JoeDon Rooney (lead guitar and vocals). The three are all great songwriters and have composed some of their hits. But their biggest hit, Bless the Broken Road, which won the Grammy Awards, was written by Jeff Hannah and Marcus Hummon. The group was formed in 1999 and by the early part of 2000, their first self-titled album was released. This has been certified 2x multi platinum while their sophomore album, Melt released in 2002 has been certified 3x multi platinum. Success just continued to come their way with their Feels Like Today album in 2004 and Me and My Gang album in 2006 receiving 5x multi platinum with the latter setting a record of having
the biggest debut week sales of 2006 in any genre of music, plus the second highest selling album of the year which earned 3.5 million in sales by the yearís end. And by 2007, they were named as one of the Top 10 Country Artists. The bandís soulful rendition of each song won not only the hearts of country music lovers but also the youth. With regards to concert tours, they are no less than a hit too with their country tour in 2007 ranking as the third highest US country tour grossing $34 million with 588,009 ticket sales. Indeed they have touched peopleís lives through their songs. And if you want to experience country music at its best, you can catch Rascal Flatts at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, Maryland Heights, MO on August 27, 2010 at 7pm.
